Colonel Blotto model of pre-trial litigation

It’s been a few years since I have dabbled in game theory (see here and here, for example). Nevertheless, building on the work of Andrew Munro, Scott Page, and others, I am happy to report that I will be presenting my “Colonel Blotto Litigation Game” work-in-progress — a draft of which is available here — at the Ninth Annual Civil Procedure Workshop (CPW9) at UC Law SF in beautiful downtown San Francisco this weekend. My talk and paper will be dedicated to the memory of my father, Don Francisco Guerra.

  1. I wish you luck with your presentation!

    • It was great to have received a lot of feedback on my paper, but sometimes I wonder, “What’s the point of it all?”

      • I know the feeling. Granted, I don’t do any academic writing , but my opinion pieces remain obscure.

Sometimes quality is better than quantity ( in regard to readership).

How many articles from the major outlets are merely re-tweeted with no one thoughtfully engaging with it?

      • Well said! In my case, my “Colonel Blotto” paper was part of a trilogy of game theory papers I wrote when I began my academic career; but now I a much less interested in game theory and more interested in other things, like legal history, especially the art of telling stories about ideas and concepts that influence how we see the world…

      • That is helpful , especially if you are looking to write for a lay audience.

A story or personally anecdote always grabs the reader’s attention.
