Your mileage may vary, but after many years of trial and error the following rules of thumb or “dos and dont’s” have worked for me:

Today (March 25) is one of the most important days for Roman Catholics and Orthodox Christians: the Feast of the Annunciation, which commemorates the Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin Mary and which used to mark the beginning of the New Year. (See here, for example.) Pictured below is El Greco’s rendering of the Annunciation.
