Or why aren’t California and Texas sovereign republics?

Thanks for the link … your blog is amazing … by the way, I would also add that one major distinction between the Crimea and Puerto Rico is that most Crimeans approved of their annexation, while by contrast the people in PR are evenly divided over the annexation question (i.e. Statehood) …
Crimeans’ will has been imposed by others. Believe me, it is not as it look like on TV. But yes, I suppose it is quite a different in Puerto Rico. Thank you.
Your point about inaccurate media coverage is well-taken … but let me raise a different question: isn’t all law ultimately based on coercion (at least to some extent)? If so, then how can we distinguish legal coercion from illegal or wrongful coercion? Let’s consider the recent events in the Crimea to illustrate this question. Specifically, isn’t Russia’s annexation of the Crimea illegal? I think so, but then, who enforces the norm (law?) against coercive annexations?
The thing is, even if you are at the point, who is able to stop Russia without further, more drastic, consequences. The law of Eastern Europe, Russia mainly, is far more intolerant than what was revealed. There are enormous differences among Crime and Puerto Rico. Indeed, I am of belief Russia is highly “pursuasive” while the Crimeans are under pressure of consequences. Even thought, there are, evidently, great number of those willingly accepting Russia as their country within Ukraine.
