Wow, I grew up in a part of Massachusetts that boarded on the Rhode Island state line. It’s amusing because Rhode Islanders have a hang up of taking a car trip that is any more than 10 minutes down the road.
I assume this distorted sense of time and distance is an illusion created by RI’s small geographic size . I had cousins who lived in Rhode Island who felt visiting us was traveling to the other end of the Earth. We only lived 20 minutes away!
Here are some additional “fun facts” about the Ocean State (via Wikipedia): “Formerly named the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations since its accession to the Union in 1790, voters in the state approved an amendment in November 2020 to the state constitution, formally renaming itself the State of Rhode Island.[17][18] Rhode Island’s official nickname is the ii Ocean State, a reference to the large bays and inlets that amount to about 14% of its total area.”
All very interesting facts. Spending the first 24 years of my life in a town adjacent to the state, I have to say it is a quirky little state. Even by the standards of other states comprising the region of New England.
Enrique I am curious if you have any familiarity with R.I.’s official state beverage, “Coffee Milk”. Personally I do not care for it. However, it seems to be unique to the Ocean State.
