It’s a conservative fantasy that we could run this nation of 300-plus million people with a Department of State, Department of War, Department of Agriculture, Homeland Security and nothing else. Too big to fail? More like too small-minded to succeed.
That is a fair point, except do we really need a Department of Agriculture any more?
If we didn’t have a Department of Agriculture, how could we assure the safety of milk and the flow of subsidies to agribusiness?
Markets will perform the first function; with respect to subsidies, I rest my case!
P.S. Do you mean a “libertarian” fantasy? For I have noticed that so-called conservatives have done nothing to reduce the size of government, even when they are in power.
Well, Rick Perry was no Libertarian and he wanted to get rid of the Department of Oops along with two other departments that I can’t remember… are they gone already?
