Where should the center of the world be located? I posted this circa-1947 map on my blog on Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day 2017 (see here) and again in 2020 (here). It’s one of my favorite maps so I am posting it again this year to mark this somber occasion. Also, here is a direct link to the map.
When I used to teach freshman comp, sometimes we looked at “upside down” maps to see how the world would look if it weren’t so northern-centric.
What an awesome idea!
It was pretty cool.
By the way, I presented my work to a left-of-center group of academics called “LatCrit”; their logo is an upside-down Mercatus map, which likewise blew me away when I first noticed it!
